In this guest lecture, Professor Leslie, whose history of SUNY is soon to be published, will discuss the development of mass higher education in the United States between World War Two and the mid-1970s. Using the SUNY system as an example, he will rehearse its formation in light of the social, economic and political agendas of two leading post-war New York governors, Thomas Dewey and Nelson Rockefeller.
