Internal funding at the School of Communication and Culture 2023-2028

The school is preparing to implement an action plan for the coming strategy period. In this context, the internal pools of funds are continued in a modified form, providing targeted support for focus areas at the same time as maintaining a focus on aligning the ratio between teaching and research by concentrating on increasing the income from research.

In 2023-2028, the school is allocating up to DKK 2 million to support researchers, research programmes and initiatives aimed at strengthening the school’s strategic business collaborations. The budget framework – and its distribution between the pools – will not be fixed. Among other things, this will ensure more flexibility with regard to allocating the funds and negotiating possible agreements on work reduction with heads of department. The estimates below are therefore only indicative.

The school's research centres and units – DKK 300,000
The school’s research programmes – DKK 1,000,000
The school’s research pool – support for research initiatives – DKK 400,000
The school’s research pool – support for strategic collaboration projects – DKK 150,000
Ongoing funding for individual/collective activities – DKK 150,000

Key principles for the school’s pools of funds

External funding
As in previous years, you should, as far as possible, apply for external funding for activities and events such as conferences and visits by visiting scholars.

Single-pool funding applications
To ensure better transparency with regard to the funding of activities at the school, we urge applicants to apply for funding from only one of the school’s pools of funds and to not apply for funding for the same activity across several internal pools of funds/sources of funding.

The school's research centres and units

To support the School of Communication and Culture’s research organisation, centres can apply for up to DKK 10,000 to carry out specific activities.

Here are some of the activities for which funding may be available:

  • Seminars
  • Workshops
  • Networking events
  • Visits by visiting scholars
  • Knowledge sharing with society

As far as possible, external funding should be applied for to cover the costs of these activities, for example conferences and visits by visiting scholars. Please note that research groups or individual researchers affiliated with centres or units should, as a general rule, apply for funding to carry out relevant activities through the programme. Activities carried out under research programmes must be financed through the budgets of these programmes.

Who can apply?
Centre directors or contact persons apply on behalf of the centre or research environment by submitting an application to research consultant Helle Breth Klausen.

How are applications processed?

Applications are processed by the research committee, taking into account any possible conflicts of interest. Final decisions on the allocation of funding are made by the school management team. Case processing is expected to take 3-4 weeks. If applications are accepted, an official notice of award will be sent to the applicant and the department secretary.

Application deadline
15 November.

The school’s research programmes

In order to support bottom-up activities carried out under research programmes and units, the school allocates an adjustable grant to each programme every year. The grant is determined on the basis of the number of members on the programme. The research programme directors are responsible for implementing the adjustable grant in a way that supports the programme’s priorities and the members’ wishes to the greatest extent possible.

The school's research pool – support for research initiatives

NB: This funding opportunity will be phased out in 2024 due to a decision based on the success of the research pool. Last deadline for applying is June 15, 2024.

In order to support the objective of strengthening the international profile and basic research of the research environments, the school is allocating funding for strategic initiatives that can attract more external research funding.

This research pool helps researchers to prepare applications, for instance for:

  • IRFD Sapere Aude
  • ERC grants – Starting Grant, Consolidator Grant or Advanced Grant
  • Horizon Europe
  • The Danish National Research Foundation

What can you apply for?
Funding is provided for internal workload reductions (max. 150 hours) of some of your teaching commitments in connection with the above grants.

Funding for workload reductions is based on dialogue with the head of department and is to ensure that research priorities do not stand in the way of the school’s teaching activities. To receive funding, you must send a completed application for the grant in question and actively use the school’s support options, for example internal reviews or process management by the Research Support Office.
