Reporting of teaching material to Copydan

How do I report to Copydan Writing at the School of Communication and Culture?

As a teacher, you must report the teaching material used. AU has a copying agreement with Copydan Writing, which means that you can legally copy and use excerpts from all over the world's published text and sheet music materials, both printed and digital material from Danish and foreign publications.

You must send your literature lists to copydan@cc.au.dk, and you are welcome to send the lists continuously. We collect the lists and send them twice a year on 1 March or 1 October to Copydan Writing.

CopyDan accepts many different formats - including the submission of whole semester plans, as long as the literature references are highlighted and contain the necessary information.

You also can send the lists in one of the following ways:

You have quite a bit of literature for each course, which you prefer to type into a Word form
If you prefer to enter titles into a Word document, download and use one of the templates in the right margin. Complete and send the form to copydan@cc.au.dk.

or...

You have already created a bibliography for each course, which is complete and ready to be sent
Send the finished bibliography to copydan@cc.au.dk. However, you should ensure that all information that Copydan requires is on your list.

See here on the right which information your list must contain if you use your own version.

Support

  • The secretariat of the School of Communication and Culture ensures that lists and forms that are sent to the e-mail copydan@cc.au.dk are forwarded to Copydan Writing according with the start of the semester (February/March and September/October).
  • Unfortunately, we cannot be of assistance with rules within copying and copyright, but refer to the guidelines from the AU Library and the liaison librarian, which can be found below

Liaison librarians

There are a number of rules that you should be aware of when teaching and using materials in your teaching. For example, do you know, for example, whether you can show TV footage, upload articles to Brightspace, and what about pictures in your slides?

Need help?

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the liaison librarian associated with your field, who will be happy to assist you with your questions.

Alternatively, you are always welcome to contact your local library.

Material from the Internet

Finding relevant course material online can be quick and easy, while it can be much more difficult to assess whether or not you may share this material with your students.

Copying, printing and scanning

If you would like to hand out copies or prints, make printed compendia or scan material for your students, the rules that apply are dependent on the original material.

Images

If you want to use images during teaching, you need to be aware of the agreement between AU and Copydan (Visual).

Video and sound

When you make use of video clips during lectures, you need to be aware not only of the conditions placed by the individual video service you are using, but also of the Copyright Act and the Personal Data Act.

Radio and TV

Read how you can use radio and television broadcasts in your teaching - both your own recordings as well as content from Mediestream.

Copydan agreements

Aarhus University has entered into three agreements with Copydan, covering text, images and audiovisual (AV) material.

Brightspace

When you need to share materials with your students, use Brightspace rather than Dropbox, Facebook or e-mails.

Agreement on the Right to Use Teaching Materials

As a university teacher, you hold the copyright to the teaching materials you create in connection with your employment at Aarhus University in accordance with copyright law. This grants you the right to use these materials both during and after your employment, including outside of AU.

However, to ensure the quality of AU's educational programs, it may be necessary for the university to have the ability to reuse teaching materials developed by its teachers.
To regulate this, AU and the teachers have entered into an Agreement on the Right to Use Teaching Materials at Aarhus University (currently only available in Danish).
